With handshakes and face-to-face job interviews out of the question, now’s the time to strengthen your “virtual handshake”, which could serve you well beyond the current pandemic.
Video interviews are a way to evaluate candidates remotely. Instead of meeting in person or talking on the phone, recruiters and hiring managers can interview candidates virtually, using video interview software (e.g. SparkHire, Jobma) or communication tools (e.g. Zoom, Skype, Hangouts).
A video interview is usually preferred at early hiring stages as a method to screen a large number of candidates quickly and effectively. Video interviews can be helpful to reduce time to hire, reduce hiring costs, streamline candidate screening and standardize the hiring process.
A video interviewing user friendly platform will ease on your ability to perform video interview successfully but it should combined with the following practices:
- Set up your space- interviewing from a messy room or having children screaming at the background will not benefit with your “virtual handshake”. Think about the room arrangement, your internet connection, and the ideal area for interviewing or being interviewed.
- Practice- for some the physical distance might create insecurities but if you practice enough times and even try to record yourself the way to success is going to be much shorter.
Video interviewing is a great way to reduce costs and time both for the company and the candidate. It might be new practice to many people but is definitely here to stay.
