Currently, the importance of expanding one’s own network of contacts is more relevant than ever.
Due to the fact that the Internet and various social networks have become widely used – the world has become very tight. It is not a problem for us to communicate with any person in any corner of the world just because of a stable Internet connection.
Networking is crucial not only for achieving personal goals (friendship, creation of a family), but also for professional growth.
However, we are talking about sincere, strong relationships, not those that are built on mutual benefit. First and foremost, you need to learn how to listen genuinely and empathize, how to give your all attention to the conversation, and you’d better give more than you receive. If you start communication with the desire to get a promotion on the career ladder, it is unlikely that anything worthwhile will come out of it.
From my own experience, I can say that acquaintances and networking have helped me to find a job. And it’s not about nepotism, lobbying for one’s interests, or something else. If people around you know your abilities and you frankly tell them that you are looking for a job or asking for help, in my humble opinion most of them will be genuinely glad to help you. Someone will send you an advertisement in time, someone will introduce you to HR, or someone will give your resume to friends.
These opportunities for renewal of contacts should be used not only to get a job, but it will also be useful if you want to expand your client network, find new suppliers, and discover other sales markets.
People are the most valuable resource we can have. Surround yourself with ambitious people from different fields – you can become a completely different person. You don’t need to be ashamed to invite acquaintances and people you don’t know, but they are interesting to you, for coffee or lunch, sincerely announcing that you want to get to know them better. Each of us likes attention to ourselves and most of us are open to new acquaintances.
Given a large number of social networks and their distribution, even writing small posts on your page might help you to meet new people, find your audience and allow you to have an enjoyable discussion. In turn, Zoom, Skype, Google meet, and other tools provide you with opportunities to contact people from other countries and give you new experiences in networking.
I would recommend you to read the book “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi. In this book, you will get answers to the questions of why it is so important to build honest relationships and where they can lead you.
It’s pretty cool to have your own people everywhere you go or stay, isn’t it?
